Winter Knockout v Cannington B
Saturday 5th November – Cricket St Thomas

Folke gathered at the neutral venue of Cricket St. Thomas  Golf Club for their 3 Counties Winter Knock Out match against Cannington B in fine fettle. Nine of the boys turned up early for breakfast and one had to stay home and do the washing didn’t they Skinny Love?  Kev Down was not feeling his best and just opted to have poached eggs on toast – a schoolboy error! (but more of that later)

First on the Tee, in freshly washed underpants (allegedly) was Skinny Love and Lilly Allen, Skinny was first up and hit his tee shot out of town but luckily Lilly was there to bail him out and send a fine drive up the fairway winning the first hole. The pair never looked back exchanging pars between them to bring home the biggest win of the day 5&3.

Second off was Swampy Marsh and El Bow, The full handicap allowance took its toll on the boys and they suffered a hefty loss of 5&4.

Third off was Dinker Hinks and Young Senior Tone Smith. Having two players from the village together was not good captaincy from Dinker but maybe his thinking was still blurred following his dramatic collapse the previous week at Folke where he suffered a loss after being 5 up with 6 to play. Who could throw away such a lead? :-), Anyway, minus his shoelaces and belt Dinker and Smith marched around the course and incredibly managed to play hole 11 before holes 8,9 & 10 – a remarkable feat given they had played the course only a month before, but not so remarkable when you consider their “village” of residence. What was remarkable was that they came from 3 down to scrape a 1 up win. Maybe making their opponents dizzy helped!

Fourth on the Tee was Sick Note Down and Dean Furball. Dean is in the form of his life but a Committee Meeting pre-match concluded that he still hadn’t won anything, deeming the Monday Night Village Invitational to be a non event! The boys got off to a steady start   but Down could be seen to be moping round feeling sorry for himself and after five holes decided he could play no more and had to travel home early. (Anybody doubting his illness are welcome to check out his facebook page where the evidence of his breakfast is readily available to see, although its not good viewing!) Furball fought a lone battle and came home with a tremendous 1 up victory having birdied the last hole. I’m sure he will tell you all about it at the roll ups!

Last out was the Self Proclaimed matchplay specialist Blatchy accompanied by Master Builder Mitch Mitchell. The boys were struggling to get into the game, playing bogie golf they soon found themselves 2 down but with a fighting sprit and a run of pars the result was turned on its head and they shook hands on the 17th green having secured a 3&1 victory.

A great 4-1 victory for Folke who were down in three games at one stage. Thanks must go to Cricket St Thomas Golf Club for their fine hospitality, excellent Breakfast and a course in great condition. Thanks also to Captain Hinks, Cannington, and the Folke massive for making it another enjoyable day…

Keep you balls clean and your swing straight

Blatchy 😉
