mMoors Valley (Away) 10 September

Folke arrived at a damp Moors Valley in confident mood and looking for a positive result that would secure their promotion. The first task of the day was to polish of a fine breakfast. Kevin Down could be seen trying to integrate himself into the Senior Section where he will golfing very soon by dining with Tinno and George. Luckily for George, he couldn’t hear a word Kev was saying but Tinno had to sit through Kev talking about his latest business deal!

On to the first Tee and it was persistent rain that greeted the gathered masses. First off was the two left handed Kevs – Ring & Down. Both got off the tee well and bagged themselves an early lead which they soon turned into an even bigger advantage  finding themselves three up at the turn. However a solid fight back from their opponents saw them shake hand on a half on the 18th green.

Second out was the Skipper playing alongside Dave Bamford – a solid paring if ever their was one – and playing some steady golf the boys looked on for a sure fire win being two up with two to play. Unfortunately they pressed the self destruct button and as with the first pairing had to shake hands on a half at the conclusion of the match.

Third out was the in-form Senior Champ Tone Smith alongside our foreign import El Bow. These boys set off like a house on fire soon finding themselves three up. However as with many old boys they lacked the stamina to seal the deal and shook hands on eighteen having lost one down.

Fourth out was Blatchy and young Lee Smith. Having sorted their previous travel issues out, these boys never looked like losing. Playing in a country park suited their game – the wildlife had a major impact – there  were birdies flying everywhere. A comfortable 5&4 victory was secured against Paul & Alan who were great company in what was a very enjoyable game.

Bringing up the rear were the old guard of George & Tinno. A steady pairing if ever there was one. Moors were short of players so had to field one that was out of the 18 handicap bracket however their home pairing battled all the way around to beat the old boys on the last,a lesson for other golf clubs that fielding a full side even if they are out of the handicap bracket, is better than giving games away.

So back in the clubhouse the scores were totted up and a 3&2 victory was earned by the home side, a very disappointing result given that Folke were up in all their matches at one stage. They will now have to wait and see if promotion has been secured. Thanks must go to the Moors boys who are a great bunch of lads and the course was in excellent condition.

As it’s the final game of the season, thanks must also go to Andy,Steve, Lisa and Captain Lloydy (apart from today) for  excellent work over what was another great season of fun golf.

Keep your balls clean and your swing straight.

Blatchy 🙂
